Some 2012 Stuff - June

It has been almost 2 months since I last posted on the 'Some 2012 Stuff' section. Time caught up, and 2 months then has since passed in a blink of an eye. In order to cover April's & May's postings, both artworks in these months are compiled for June. So far in the past 2 months, I've been reconsidering my study options again. A friend of mine, Ivan (a brainchild genius in Physics, Science and an A student) helped me in a quest and bid to find a scholarship. All in all, one soon cropped up and I decided to give it a go for IED Turin, Italy's scholarship on Transportation design. After all, why not give it a go when it's one of the best and most sought after institution in the world? My quest began with a sketch that represented Italian excellence, and I came up with something more inclined to a Detomaso Mangusta.

Final Renderings of the scholarship entry

Still wasn't happy with the side profile after several attempts. Considering the options & decisions I've got..
Now comes to the MAY & JUNE artworks. Mostly consisting of iPad try outs. And later more refined from a much better app I downloaded.
My random thoughts, ideas and solutions to existing problems for the future.. very much relating to Project MFSC.
Thinking about Avanza Platforms... while having lunch at a mamak..

Another experiment

I got the interior right

And a very well done rear.

Victory! Peugeot Design Competition 2011

It's time that I actually share with you about the progress on the Peugeot Design Competition 2011's result that we've been eagerly and patiently awaited for. Either ways, you would have probably found out about it  ages ago, thus resulting this post to be rather pointless. Aside from that, it would still be certainly useful to keep the victory moment documented and well remembered. Not to mention, to my avid readers (where I doubt I have any readers..)
Anyways, to kick start it with some bubbly joy of enthusiasm. I have indeed claimed Victory over the secondary school category for first place over the number of other school entries. And with the declaration that's been made even before it happening, all credit and praise goes to the one and only who deserves it. You know who that is... Lol
Now one of the few things that I would certainly highlight throughout the entire competition was how these few elements played such an important role, that without it, it couldn't have been any better. It's Grace, Favor and that special extraordinary spark that sets us apart glowing from the rest. One of them was when the judges themselves initially thought my entry was actually one of the college entries, but after referring to my application form they were pretty surprised or if not doubtful about my artwork, as they had wanted to consider calling me up to prove myself. In all other words, this is certainly more than what I could have imagined, that's definitely Grace and His hand working.
So it was on Thursday morning that my parents and I left for NST in Bangsar for the prize giving ceremony. It was a wet morning, the day after KL had flash floods. The result was imminent. Rush hour and Jams. Eventually we still got there in time. The strange thing was, that my extroverted side of me had simply decided to activate on it's own. For some reason I was pretty excited to meet the other top 5 winners. No matter that I had won, but i had wanted to build and make connections with them. And it wasn't a matter of pride or being a show off at all. It was just honest, excitement of networking.
Far right, Jonathan Yip and the guy that won Fifth place, can't remember his name argh!
Right back to the point. So while networking, second place went to this guy named Jonathan Yip. I was actually pretty impressed with his work. Along with the renderings he did. Which I later found out that he's studying mass comm, currently into photography, and a pretty well known blogger. I also made another friend which I got along better with was this guy that got 5th place and had came all the way from East Malaysia. I got along with him especially well partly because of my pity for him since his dad was busy with a meeting and had no one to hang out with.
The Golden shot! The minister checks out the artwork while the press surrounds him. lol
Right! Anyways, there was a speech given by the minister, Peugeot's South East Asia director and one of Naza's representative. And yeah, pretty much a prize giving ceremony. Now to move on, as the prize giving ceremony had ended with interviews by the press, photography session and sorts, my parents and I had a really good discussion with one of the judges who was a professor. It was an interesting conversation especially understanding his own perspective of automotive design in Malaysia which is in its infants right now. Having discussed with him about the opportunities, growth and interest in Malaysia. He shared about his own experiences having studied in the UK and about his regret of returning to the country with extremely little job opportunities resulting him to become a lecturer in one of the local universities.
1st place - Secondary category. Ipad 2 and Peugeot goodies
To get down to the real jizz of the story, in the past few months I've been searching for the right path to take in my tertiary education which I had posted about, Raffles college. It all seemed well during that time but the moment I received an email regarding the fee's, the amount was greater than my capabilities to make the decision. My decision was then left dangling again, requiring me to look for other open doors instead. And being unsure of what to do, I had seek for an answer, which the Professor in turn, had in view of what I was looking for. In the conversation we had, I reviewed through his words that it all made sense to take his advice to study industrial or Product design here. Not to mention take my degree elsewhere to who knows where. (some of the best places around.) Turin? Pasadena? Conventry? Well since then, I've been looking for a college. Sadly one of the ideal colleges I was planning to go had stopped offering the course in their list of programmes offered. Sad isn't it? Overall, the event was a great one, and I couldn't have done it without the one and only almighty friend. lol
